What a great story of how Ali was discovered! That's inspirational.

And thank you for discussing the many meanings of 'success,' super helpful.

Not putting a lot of stock in something you can't control – that's a very smart thing to keep in mind.

Ali's story is really interesting, huh?? I love her so much. She's so open about her career and generous with her advice. I'm really happy that the meanings of success were helpful to you, Kristin! Hope this kickstarted your day in an inspirational way. :)

I love this interview too. I love her definition of success for herself and her honesty. I have a question about bestseller lists that was mentioned in the interview. These lists are curated and not based on book sales? What is considered a bestseller? Is it different for every organization that creates these lists?

Ali's honesty is such a kindness, isn't it?

I love your question about bestseller lists, E, and it's got kind of a longish answer. Since Petra also had some great questions in her Comment, I'm going to collect all of your Qs and answer them during the next Book Club meeting in the Writer Hangout portion. (If you can't make the live meeting, you'll be able to watch the recording afterward!)

Kristin linked this “post” in her lovely Substack and what a treat! I’m subscribed and I’m an old school dinosaur who rarely listens to podcasts and vlogs, but this brightened my day. I feel like I discovered gold.

Such a fun interview, Evelyn! Thank you for sharing it. And thank you to Ali as well. :)

I love learning more about how Ali was discovered and appreciate how open and honest she is about her experience. I appreciate this about you, too. :) So cool that she was discovered writing fan fic!

And really interesting hearing the conversation about branding or redefining one's self as an author. I'm just starting out. I have one fantasy book out and plan to continue writing fantasy as well as romance and sci-fi (because I have to stay interested and curious for my own enjoyment) and I hope my 'Petra-ness' carries readers through whichever of my books they discover. 🤞😀

I'm curious to hear how you approach what genres/subgenres you write in or might write in? Do you have any articles or interviews where you talk about your approach or thought process to author branding or genre selection?

I also loved where Ali talks about reinventing yourself over and over as a writer! I completely agree that your "Petra-ness" will carry over. You're putting yourself into the stories, you know?

Those are great questions you pose, and probably too long to answer in a comment. So I am going to collect them for now and then I'll answer them during the Book Club meeting in the Writer Hangout portion, since others are likely curious, too! If you can't make it to the meeting, the replay will be available afterward. :) Thanks for the idea, Petra!
