DAMSEL IS COMING: March 8th, 2024
Funny thing happened yesterday… I logged onto Instagram and saw that someone had tagged me in a post about Damsel the Movie’s release date. Why was this funny? Because I didn’t hear the news first from my publisher or from Netflix—no one had told me before the news went public!
Don’t worry, I am 0% upset. This happens all the time and I truly do laugh every time it does. I’m always the last one to get copies of my ARCs or even the final, published books! Readers are always posting photos and videos of my books before my shipment lands on my door. This is a quirk of publishing—I live on the West Coast, and most distribution centers are on the other side of the country, so inevitably, everyone else gets copies of my books before I do.
As for the movie release date, there are ten thousand moving pieces in the machinery of Hollywood publicity, and I just feel blessed to be part of this extraordinary Netflix film/literary production!
I cannot wait for you to get to see what the incredible Netflix team has been working toward. So mark your calendars! MARCH 8th, 2024… Damsel and Millie Bobby Brown and Angela Bassett and Robin Wright and the DRAGON are coming for you!
This Year’s Holiday Ornaments
Every year, we add a new ornament or two to our tree. Sometimes, Tom makes them. Five years ago when he was just learning how to whittle, he carved a basswood heart for me. This year, when The Hundred Loves of Juliet came out, he made me a new heart—an elegant rosewood one. I love both hearts, not only because we can see how far he’s come in his workmanship, but also because there is so much love put into everything he makes for me!
Also new to our tree this year is this little Viking puffball, which I got during my writing retreat in Solvang (the super cute Danish village in Southern California). And we also saw the cute dim sum ornament at Target and couldn’t pass it up, because you all know how obsessed I am with food!
Year-End Thoughts
As 2023 comes to an end, I am continually so thankful for you. I’ve written all sorts of books, but no matter what, you buy the stories for yourself or your mothers or your grandchildren or your best friends. You support my work as an artist, and in return, I try to write books for you full of heart and love and the ups and downs of real life, and most of all—hope and joy.
There is no writer—or any kind of artist—without their patrons, and you are mine. Thank you for spending 2023 with me. I am so, so looking forward to 2024 with you!
All my love,
~evelyn
Yay! 🙌🏽 thrilled for you (I hope Damsel isn’t too scary for me!) You are living my dream. I wrote YA novels in the 90s, always hoping they would be made into a film… but I let the Monkeys of fear (rejection) stop me, distract me into new projects. Along the way, I’ve grown so much self-compassion, and understanding of trauma, etc. So my writing and film scripts can go effing deep!
