Wow 500 rejections 😲 I love that dedication and realness. And I love the phrase "oh it'll just become part of my origin story", I'm going to remember that one!
I loved this chat with Margarita! Very inspiring. The fact that she didn't give up on herself, that she kept believing, and that she had a supportive life partner was just incredible to hear! Also, I love how she reframed the rejections, telling herself that this was just a part of her "origin story." That's some good growth mindset stuff right there! Thank you for having her on the podcast, Evelyn! I'm interested to pick up the Dollhouse Academy now! :)
Yes!! Margarita is so amazing and I love love love her attitude! I totally agree that it’s a brilliant reframing of rejection—after all, we are storytellers!!
Sophie S. mentioned the "500 Rejections"--that is what impressed me as well--that persistence, and I think Margarita used the word "stubborn"--and a determination to "not give up."
There was a quote James Clear used on his newsletter that is one I've written out for myself not only as I go through revisions (I cut 100 pages and a full storyline out of my novel. It's the right thing to do, but Lordy......), but contemplate the state of the world....
The quote is this:
"When you get in a tight place, and everything goes against you till it seems as if you couldn't hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that's just the place and time that the tide'll turn." Harriet Beecher Stowe

That was the greatest thing I've ever heard for weathering the querying phase!!

Thanks, Evelyn...D
Oh, I love that quote!
As for the revisions, you have a great attitude--recognize the "ouch" emotion of it and then get on with the work. 😉 Good luck, Diana!
Oh, this is just what I needed to hear today! Thank you so much!
Hooray! I’m glad this episode found you at the right time!
Very inspirational from both of you about persistence and resilience. 🫶🏻
Thank you so much, Elaine! 💛
