Téa is such a fascinating author! I was glad that you asked her about weaving folklore into her work. As a folklore-inspired writer myself, I'm always interested to learn how other writers use it in their own writing. Great interview!

I love when a question like that just happens to be exactly what you need!

How did you end up leaning toward folklore?

When I was researching for the novel I'm currently revising, I came across the changeling legend. It became a source of inspiration for plot points, characters, and themes. I've also discovered that learning about folklore has provided me with a way to connect with my ancestry. (My father's family came to the US from England in the 1800s.)

Just popping in to say how much I appreciate these interviews. This one resonates because I'm a non native speaker writing in English as well 😊

Awww, THANK YOU, Sophie!

I am so very impressed with everyone who writes in English, for whom English was not their first language!

This was one of the most helpful things I've ever heard a writer say: "If you want the reader to care about something improbable, you have to lace it with affection." I love that line because it's like a missing clue to working out something I've struggled with.

What a fantastic interview and Téa is absolutely brilliant--on so many levels. Thank you for introducing her to me--and something I found interesting--minutes before listening to this interview, I had referenced one of my favorite authors (Jhumpa Lahiri) in a comment, and Téa mentioned her toward the beginning of the conversation. I love serendipitous moments.

It's all kismet... I had JUST been talking to a friend about Jhumpa Lahiri's book the day before I interviewed Téa, then Téa brought it up, and then YOU mentioned it just before this episode went live...!!
