My guest today is Pierce Brown, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Red Rising series, the latest of which—Light Bringer—recently came out in paperback.

But that’s not the only reason I invited Pierce here today. I chose him for you because he is a deep thinker—in my opinion, he’s one of the great sci-fi authors of our generation—and also a wonderful person who inspires me by his kindness and generosity. (He gives the best hugs.)

Today we talk about how Pierce overcomes self-doubt, how success has changed his career, and we debate creativity vs inspiration. (And we poke some good-natured fun at what authors are like.) We also discuss whether writing makes us happy.
