The Hundred Loves of Juliet BONUS CONTENT: Sweet Tooth edition
Nutella cornetti recipe, the deleted, extended menu from Axes & S'more, + character art by Hallie "Hal the Gal" Bertling
Hello lovelies!!
I’ll be sending out some extra content in the next weeks, exclusive for you, my newsletter subscribers!
Today’s request comes from some readers who love desserts (obviously a favorite of mine, since I can’t stop writing about food in my books!)
If you’ve already read The Hundred Loves of Juliet, you’ll remember the fictional restaurant Axes & S’more, where you can throw axes while nibbling on massive platters of s’mores… Well, readers have been curious what else might’ve been on that menu, and you’re in luck!
I had actually written a longer menu, but my agent and editor had me cut it down, since it slowed the pacing of the story and some readers might not be interested. (What? How is that possible?)
But for those of you who wish that Axes & S’more was real, here is more to fuel your sugary daydreams! Scroll down for the complete menu.
If you haven’t gotten a copy of The Hundred Loves of Juliet yet, you can do that here or anywhere that sells books:
Shortcut Nutella cornetti recipe
Sebastien (aka Romeo) bakes nutella cornetti in The Hundred Loves of Juliet, because it is Juliet’s favorite food. When they are together, he makes them for her. In the spaces between her reincarnations, he still eats one by himself every day so that he can remember her.
I am not as good a baker as Sebastien is in the book (and I am much lazier), so I made these simple Cheater Nutella Cornetti with only two ingredients: Nutella and store bought puff pastry dough.
It’s super easy!
Defrost the puff pastry according to the instructions on the box, then cut it into long triangles.
Smear some Nutella on each piece, then roll it up tight into a crescent. If you want your cornetti golden, you can brush the puff pastry with eggwash. Cinnamon sugar is optional.
Then put the tray in the oven at 400 degrees F for 15-20 minutes.
Let the cornetti cool, then sprinkle with powdered sugar if you’d like.
(original recipe from Schweta in the Kitchen)
More Character Art!
This adorable take on Sebastien and Helene is perfect for this edition of my newsletter, because it highlights the sweet parts of The Hundred Loves of Juliet. I love how Sebastien and Helene are standing in an art gallery full of portraits of former Juliets…
And even better, the artist is Hallie Bertling (a.k.a. Hal the Gal), a long-time subscriber of this newsletter!
If you want to watch the entire behind-the-scenes process of how Hallie created this art, she has a Patreon which will get you access to every step of her fascinating process, from how she used frames from a photo of a piece of art in Paris, to her colored pencil/watercolor/sennelier stain technique, all the way to how she cut out Romeo & Juliet (Sebastien & Helene) to create a shadowbox effect. Her Patreon is full of all sorts of artsy goodies, so check it out! (Thank you for this beautiful character art, Hallie!)
Another Interview + Book Recommendations
I was so pleased to be interviewed by librarian Karen McCoy about The Hundred Loves of Juliet, and she also asked me to share three of my favorite recent reads.
If you’re looking for a few more books to add to your TBR (or just can’t get enough of The Hundred Loves of Juliet info), you can read my interview here:
And now, here is what you sugar fiends have been waiting for…
