This is a great initiative! As a former high school teacher, I'm especially pleased by the scholarships for high school seniors. What a wonderful memorial for Ryan!

For the record, clicking the subscribe button just tells me I'm already subscribed. Maybe there's a way to set a custom button that would do the trick, but I'm not offhand seeing how.

For anyone else who is looking, this method works. From your dashboard, click your icon in the upper right to get to the dropdown menu. Click SETTINGS and then MANAGE SUBSCRIPTIONS. Find the record for "Creative Inspired Happy." Click on it and then on CHANGE PLAN. That will enable you to sign up for the philanthropist level. Yes, it's a lot of steps, but it's well worth the effort.

This is super helpful, thanks, Bill! And thank you so much for upgrading to Philanthropist and contributing to additional scholarships. This is going to mean a LOT to other writers, and I'm so happy you're adding smiles to the world with me. :)

Evelyn, this is so fabulous! I want to apply but it just took me to the bold.org site. Do we make an account there to apply?

Hi Tanmeet, yes, thanks for asking the question. I am using the Bold Foundation for this round of scholarships, because they are a grant-giving nonprofit, which allows all the money to go to the scholarship recipient tax-free.

(Next year, I think I will not use them, since it's an additional application hurdle. But that will mean next year's scholarships will be less money, to allow me to give them as an individual (since I'm not set up as a nonprofit), and so the recipients don't have to pay taxes on the award money).

Anyway, yes! If you would like to apply for the $1,000 scholarships this year, you set up an account with Bold and then it will take you through the application process. I hope that helps!

I’ve been stuck in a loop while trying to apply. It keeps making me sign in and then loses the page. All good. I’ll try to make the next one!

I love this Ms. Evelyn. I am working on a supernatural gay romance novel and a collection of short stories. I totally sympathize with the unfulfilling days at work. Currently I am on a Medical Leave from work due to job stress the more I realize it I am happier writing than worrying every day about metrics. In fact I almost lost my job and income over this and worked my tail off getting off of it. Low and behind before I went out my boss started getting on me about another metric. I realize this is not how I want to live my life. I have always been passionate about my writing but allowed career and other factors to impede my goals. While I have been out I have been writing on Medium, working on my super natural gay romance novel, collection of short stories, posting what I write on Medium on Quora and working on building something on Substack. I definitely will join your club Wednesday when I get paid. Thanks so much for all that you do. Blessings to you and your family.

Yours Truly,

Bill
