This is a phenomenal interview! Regardless of the genre you read or write in, you will be inspired by the conversation between @Evelyn Skye and Scarlett St. Clair. They talk indy and traditional publishing, managing reader's and fan's expectations, burnout, marketing and promotion, their writing processes, and so much more!
The chemistry Evelyn has with her guests is so organic and real because she is genuinely one of the kindest people I have ever come across, either online or irl. We've never met, we are not old friends, so I can't be accused of bias (okay, you can accuse me, but it's not true 🤣). Creative. Inspired. Happy is the perfect title as I feel all three after watching and listening this podcast.
What a LOVELY comment to start my work day with, Amy! Thank you for your kindness. I adored talking to Scarlett— her openness about ambition was so refreshing and indeed, inspiring! I’m so so glad you felt that way, too, and that you’re enjoying these podcasts as much as I am, in making them.
Loved this interview, Evelyn! It's great to hear from someone who worked the self-publishing path and also why they chose to switch. I so appreciate how open Scarlett is about her writing career (Ali Hazelwood was generous about that, too). And I especially love hearing from women who embrace their ambition. "When I told them I wanted to take over the world they said they wanted that, too. They didn't laugh." Love this! Thank you again for taking the time to create and share these conversations. :)
Aww thank you, Petra! I really value you as a viewer/listener for your dedication every week!
I’m glad that Scarlett’s interview had such a great effect on you. I’m working hard to bring a variety of publishing experiences for you all, so thank you for seeing me!
I loved this interview, Evelyn. I’ve got Touch of Darkness on hold at my library. I feel hopeful about my work after hearing her experience in the industry and her resilience and determination. Thank you to both of you for this interview.
Oh good, I'm glad you're going to read one of her books! Scarlett is a true inspiration. I still can't get over how beautifully she was able to hold onto both her dream and her sense of self through all the years of rejection. I'm happy this interview made you feel that way, too!
Great questions, Evelyn! It was so fun watching the two of you chat.
I love Scarlett’s confidence, and what an indy control freak she is, it’s so appealing. Plus, she has great energy and a great laugh ☺️
"Waiting for someone to approve of you" – doesn't that comment hit the mark!
The reasons the potential agents gave her for saying ‘no’ are downright crazy.
The strength of not believing what the industry professionals were telling her – this is her superpower. That, and the strength to play the waiting game and not let that deter her.
Thank you, Kristin! Scarlett really is a remarkable role model, isn’t she? I admire her bold belief in herself from the very start—it’s so hard to have that kind of confidence in a creative career.
I feel like I am going to be coming back to this interview over and over again to re-listen and remind myself of the many pieces of wisdom she shared.
Her palate cleansers are sometimes novellas, sometimes writing a book in a different series, I think! Just a break and something different to work on.
Scarlett is not on Substack, sadly. Maybe we can convince her in the future. ;) Or maybe I’ll have her back on the show some time, since I feel like we could have gone on and on—there was so much to talk about!

“Indie-To-Famous!!”
So cool - You rock on Fab topics, Evelyn! You’re soooo fun ;D
Thank you, Emily!! I’ve been having so much fun choosing guests who can shed light on a variety of topics. Scarlett was a blast to hang out with.
This was such a fun watch! Thank you both!
I’m so happy you enjoyed it, Karen!
“This might be your reality, it doesn’t have to be mine”. I’ll remember that! Thank you!
I need to print that out and put it over my desk! I'm glad this interview inspired your, Imola!
This is such a great interview!! I love Scarlett's laugh!! Seriously, this was so fun to watch and I learned a TON!
Thank you Evelyn!! :)
I was SO excited to publish this one. Scarlett is a true joy to spend time with. I'm really glad you loved it, Mesa!

I'm sure I will be returning to it as well, Evelyn ~ whenever I need a pep talk!
Another great podcast! Loved the palate cleanser reference. Was that as in another book or a short story or novella? Is Scarlett not on Substack?

Poetry is my palate cleanser! She’s not on substack? She better be! hahahahhaha I loved every single minute of this. Thank you!
