Late to this interview, but very much enjoyed it. I'm grateful for open conversations with other creatives and a lot of what Pierce had to say resonated with me. I laughed when he said "no one really needs you that much" and then quickly followed it with "unless you're parent," because I was like "ummmmmmm, sir, you do NOT know my life." I run into others' need almost every second of the day.

But the reality is, your convo gave me a little gut check on all the ways I'm letting too much into my day, too early, and all the reasons why I can't get into flow state and haven't been able to for a long time -- unless my husband sends me away for a weekend.

Having reread Cal's "Deep Work" recently... just finished his "Slow Productivity" and feeling pretty challenged to find new and BETTER ways to get the work done (and push through self doubt).

Hi Kristine! It's never too late to watch these interviews, so glad you're here! As a mom, I 100% connect with what you said about people needing you, yet realizing that you can still let too much in, too soon.

I'm a huge huge fan of DEEP WORK (I don't know if you knew that from my other posts, or if this is just a wonderful coincidence!). I find I need to remind myself of those principles every now and then, because it's so easy to let the brain get distracted in a world seemingly designed for quick dopamine/seratonin hits.

I love that you're finding your way back to space and time for yourself. Welcome to our happy community! I hope to hear more about your journey. :)

Thank you Evelyn! I’m trying to presently enjoy the freedom (and chaos) of summer with the kids while resetting/preparing for a school year 2/3rds full of transition — meanwhile looking and thinking more strategically about how to make my writing work… work, in the midst. I

t often feels like a free-for-all free fall, but it’s a journey I’m grateful to be on. I’d rather live in the tension of trying to do the both/and of the work I feel called to than feel nothing at all and uninspired. ♥️

I thought they were great questions and his honesty in answering them was great to hear. I just put on reserve The Kingdoms at my local library. It sounds really good. I’m looking forward to the next interview and who you will be talking to. Hope you have a great week. Thank you again!

This was such a great conversation! I really enjoyed what Pierce was saying about creativity and inspiration being so similar. I have the hardest time keeping my butt in the chair when I set myself time to write, it's like my body wants to automatically go do something else!

I can't wait for more of these interviews :)

I am THRILLED that you enjoyed this one! I have so many more great conversations coming for you (already filmed a bunch!!) I learned from him, too. I think sharing information among writers is so insightful and helpful, no matter where you are on your journey. Thanks for listening, Mesa!

I really enjoyed your insightful podcast, Evelyn.

I feel very encouraged largely due to the transparency both you and Pierce have shown regarding the process of writing, including emotionally managing negative reviews and the importance of personal relationships.

Thank you so much.
