Love this sneak peak. It’s so great. I love the little heart rosette and where it is placed. I feel like I’m on this journey with you when you share this process with us. I love the name of Chloe and Oliver. I can’t wait to read more.
This is so interesting - thank you for sharing. How do the fonts work for the ebook? I downloaded the sample of the Lisa Marie Presley memoir recently - it’s meant to be in two different fonts (one for Lisa Marie and one for her daughter, Riley) and on kindle it’s the same font throughout.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how to format text messages. It seems there are a number of ways to do it but I hadn’t thought of using different fonts too. I know texts conversations should be short because it’s not the most interesting form of communication, but is there a preferred way of formatting texts besides just using a different font?
I've written a couple books with texts in them, and we generally use a different font, as well as formatting to offset the text, like sometimes it'll be an indented block. Also, colons sometimes (depends on the publishing house, they each have their own style guides for how they like to do these things.) But for example:
Amy: I've been thinking a lot about fonts.
Evelyn: No way, me too!
Amy: Great minds think alike?
Evelyn: lol obviously
Amy: Do the kids still use lol these days?
Evelyn: I dunno but I'm 45 years old so you can't change me haha
So excited! This feels like the kind of uplifting story a lot of people need right now❤️ Love the insight into the fonts too. It’s something readers probably don’t think much about but my nine year old nephew has trouble with his middle grade books when the fonts get too fancy(working with him to read and write cursive to try to help).
Thank you, Trista! And that's great perspective about your nephew having trouble with fonts, too. He's lucky to have a writer/reader aunt to guide him!
I love thinking about the fonts in books and really realized how important it was with my first book. I loved seeing these pages, so exciting. And pre-order done ✅ I KNOW how important those are and am honored to support you AND receive what already looks like a wonderful book. I LOVED the opening chapter already and being brought into Chloe's inner world through the hope and magic of the wishing paper! CANNOT WAIT!
Being that mine was nonfiction, a combo of memoir/exercises and science, I wanted to make sure the font was soft and inviting, like my writing style. If it was too stiff, I felt like it would reflect incorrectly that maybe it was an all science book without reflection and inspiration.
I love it already. I love fonts too, love to include several fonts in a book (if and when they enhance the content), and agree with everything you say about fonts. Not too small to read. And what a gorgeous beginning to a no doubt beautiful story.

You ARE on this journey with me! I'm so so happy to have you here along the way!

Oh that's interesting... I just assumed the fonts would translate into ebook as well!

This is such a great BTS!
Yay! Glad you enjoyed it, Holly!
Oh that must be so cool that your book is becoming a book and no longer a word doc 💜
It's reallllly amazing! 🥰
It looks challenging to proofread what already looks like a book rather than a Word document!
It is! It's tempting to go too fast, haha... I print it out to make myself slow down a little, then input the changes into the doc digitally.

THANK YOU, Tanmeet! I SO appreciate the pre-order.
I'm curious to hear about your experience with fonts in your first book? What happened there that made you realize the font selection was important?
Being that mine was nonfiction, a combo of memoir/exercises and science, I wanted to make sure the font was soft and inviting, like my writing style. If it was too stiff, I felt like it would reflect incorrectly that maybe it was an all science book without reflection and inspiration.
ooooh yes, that makes SO much sense! It's amazing how font can affect overall perception of a book like that!
The mc in my wip is a Chloe, too.
I love all the behind the scenes publishing details - thank you so much for sharing them.
Chloe is such a great name!
And you're very welcome, Kerry. I'm glad you're enjoying these Author Diaries!

aww thank you, Veronika! I'm glad to find another font nerd, haha.
